It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

The Whistler and Blackcomb mountains are approaching their one-month of being open already, and it has turned out to be one of the most successful seasons in WB record. Whistler continues to get hammered with snow, and as such is proving to both locals and tourists that the legendary tales of Whistler's ski and snowboarding conditions are in fact true.

Already in the first month of the season, we've witnessed 367 cm (over 12 ft) of snowfall on the mountains. The snow base of 152 cm (about 5 ft) is the highest snow base the mountains have seen in over 10 years. We are due for another 51cm in the next seven days, and can expect more of the same over the next couple weeks through Christmas and the holidays. In the past, Whistler Blackcomb has been blessed with a historical average of 11.92 metres (over 39 ft) of snowfall per year. This year is looking to be much greater.

Whistler Winter

These incredible snow conditions have made for some amazing skiing and snowboarding and have translated to one of the best opening weekends on record. In fact, the conditions were so great, both mountains opened early. Whistler mountain opened its lifts to the public on November 17th, a week earlier than anticipated. Blackcomb opened the following week, on the 22nd.

The Whistler Valley is getting some of the action as well. Whistler Village is gathering snow in respectable amount, creating a wonderful atmosphere. The Village truly becomes magical with all the lights in the trees and joy in the air.
