Art For an Oil Free Coast

Art for an Oil Free Coast Banner

Over the next 10 days, Scotia Creek Gallery will be hosting a special art show Art For an Oil Free Coast. The exhibition is a joint effort between some of Canada's most notable artists to help raise awareness of the proposed pipeline and supertanker routes that may devastate British Columbia rain forests.

Some of the Canadian artists involved in the project include Robert Bateman, Roy Henry Vickers, Chilli Thom, Mike Svob, David McEwon, Gaye Adams and others, which includes an exhibit, 160-page art book and film screening.

Some background info on the event

Last summer 50 of Canada's most distinguished artists head up the British Columbia coast armed with nothing but their paintbrushes, canvases and carving tools to illustrate the untouched beauty our province has to offer. Their goal was to demonstrate that this amazing land should remain undisturbed. What resulted was an amazing array of artistic works in various styles and interpretations. This collection of works will be on display during the 9-day art show in Whistler.

The Art Show

Art For an Oil Free Coast will be on display in the Scotia Creek Gallery from March 2 - 10. The gallery is located inside Whistler Millennium Place. The Scotia Creek Gallery is open 7 days a week and is FREE for the public to attend.

One of the coolest things about the show is the fact that all of the artists have donated their works of art to help the cause. That means all of the painting and carvings will be available to buy with all proceeds going towards Raincoast in an effort to stop Enbridge's Northern Gateway oil tanker proposal.

Scotia Creek Gallery Hours

Monday - Friday: 9 AM - 5 PM, Saturday: 11 AM - 4 PM, Sunday: 4 PM - 7 PM
