5 Terrific Reasons to Celebrate Whistler's 50th Anniversary Now

Justin -trudeau

We're celebrating 50 years of skiing in Whistler this year and to start things off right, we're giving you five great reasons we think you might want to celebrate Whistler.

1. Justin Trudeau Honed His Skills Here

Well, that might be a stretch, but he did spend a bit of time teaching snowboarding in Whistler while he was going through teacher's college.

People who knew him back in the day note how great he was with kids, how fast he liked to snowboard, and, in general, what a stand-up guy he was to hang around with. He seemed to truly enjoy teaching snowboarding and the Whistler lifestyle.

How lucky we are that Justin Trudeau chose Whistler to spend a few seasons when he was younger.

2. Snow, Snow, and More Snow

We opened a full week early again this year. This has become an almost annual tradition at Whistler, one that is highly anticipated year after year. The snow in our alpine rivals the best in North America.

One thing you can always count on in the Whistler alpine is tons of snow and acres of skiable terrain.

3. Kids Ski Free This Year

In celebration of 50 years of downhill skiing in Whistler, this year all kids 12 and under ski free. There are other promotions to go along with this as well, such as free rentals for kids 12 and under.

Whistler is known as being one of the most family-friendly resorts in North America, with lots of free or nearly free things to keep families happy all day and night long.

And if you want to spend a little bit of money, there's even more to do: rock climbing, ski school, sledding, ice skating and so much more. Enjoy Whistler with your entire family this year.

4. Adrenaline

If you have a need for speed, you'll love Whistler. Not only are the runs on the mountain built for speed, the lifts and gondolas are among the fastest in North America.

And off the mountain, there are more ways to thrill your senses. Bungee jumping, ziplining, bob sledding and more. You're able to go non-stop until you're ready to drop.

5. All in the Lap of Luxury

Perhaps the best thing to celebrate in Whistler is that you are able to do all of these things in the number one resort in North America.

Everything you want at your perfect Whistler retreat: hot tubs, warm fireplaces, high ceilings and all the amenities. Take a day at Scandinave Spa and rejoice in the silence and healing waters. A romantic horse drawn sleigh ride awaits you, too, if you so desire. The restaurants available to you in Whistler rival the most cosmopolitan spots from around the world. Araxi, The Barefoot Bistro, so many places for fine dining you'll never be bored.

We hope to see you this year, the 50th year for downhill skiing in Whistler.
