Crud 2 Mud

Crud2Mud Biker

You can't get much more Whistler than the Crud 2 Mud. During this event participants start high up on the Whistler Glacier with their skis or boards, then transition over to their mountain bikes half way down the mountain for a victory lap on the Whistler Bike Park.

This event is held during the transition month when the mountains are shutting down the ski hill and opening up the mountain bike park. This year's event will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015.

Competitors can take part in the event individually or in teams of two. If your choose the team option each person will complete one portion of the event either the ski/board or the bike. The event is run on a time trial basis. Contestants will go off in intervals as to avoid congestion on the hill. During the snow portion of the race competitors will weave in and out of flags much like a slalom event. During the bike portion of the race, competitors will zip down the Whistler Bike Park (a trail will be designated) as fast as possible.

While there is a competitive element to the event the race is meant to be a fun experience for all levels of riders. This is particularly the case in the transition area. Hilarity always ensues during the transition, when people are figuring out the quickest way to strip out their snow gear into their bike gear. In years past, some contestants have even chosen to keep their ski/board boots on during the downhill bike portion.

In total, there are are 14 categories to enter, making the event accessible for everyone. The cost of the event is $100 per individual or $65 per teammate. Registration must be done prior to the event and can be done so at the Whistler Blackcomb website.
