Canada Day in Whistler
Celebrate Canada's 148th birthday in Whistler this Wednesday, July 1. To mark the celebration, the Village of Whistler has prepared a number fun and FREE events. This year's agenda of events includes a FREE concert from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Canada Day Parade, farmer's market and fireworks.
Canada Day Parade
When: 12 PM
Where: Whistler Village
The always fun and exciting Canada Day Parade will take place through the Village stroll starting at 12 PM. Patrons are encouraged to dress up in their red and white apparel and line the Village streets. The parade will be made up of local businesses and citizens and features a number of floats and fancy costumes representing Canada and Whistler.
Canada Day Ceremony
When: 2:30 PM
Where: Whistler Olympic Plaza
Following the parade patrons will gather in the Whistler Olympic Plaza for a quick ceremony. It's at this time the mayor of Whistler usually addresses the crowd, followed by a cake cutting ceremony and singing of the national anthem.
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Concert
When: 3 PM
Where: Whistler Olympic Plaza
Take in a FREE concert from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at the outdoor venue Whistler Olympic Plaza. Make sure to bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets and settle in for an amazing live performance. The Orchestra will play for about an hour and a half, including a few specialty Canadian numbers.
Canada Day Fireworks
When: 10:15 PM
Where: Skiers Plaza - Best Viewing
Join us in Skiers Plaza (Base of Whistler Mountain) for some Canada Day fireworks starting at 10:15 PM.
Whistler Farmer's Market
When: 3 PM - 7 PM
Where: Upper Village Stroll (Base of
Blackcomb)
The Whistler Farmer's Market is your one stop shop for locally sourced produce & treats + handmade trinkets and gifts. The market usually houses around 80 to 100 vendors selling everything from fresh produce, homemade cosmetics, fresh baked treats, hand-crafted jewellery, local artwork and much more. Located beside the Market is the Blackcomb Adventure Zone - a kid's friendly play area with a number of activities including; mini golf, go-karts, bouncy castles, kids luge, pony rides and more.
Phat DH Wednesdays
When: 4:30 PM - 8 PM
Where: Whistler Bike Park
If
you're looking to do a little biking on Canada's B-Day why not
check out Phat Wednesday. The event is a weekly bike race held at
the Whistler Bike Park. Anyone and everyone is welcome to
participate including all levels of riders. Each week a new trail
on the Bike Park is selected to host the event. During the event,
riders are timed with their best time serving as their final score.
The race is a fun opportunity to test your skills against riders
throughout Whistler. Prizes will be awarded to the top riders in
each category - however, draw prizes will be available for everyone
that signed up. Registration for the event is done prior to the
race at the base of the Whistler Bike Park. Space is limited so
make sure to get there when registration opens at 4:30 PM, first
race begins at 5 PM.
