WSSF 2016 Arrives with State of the Art Party
STATE OF THE ART PARTY TO KICK OFF WSSF
The State of the Art Opening Party happens at The Whistler Conference Centre On April 8.
State of the Art returns to the World Ski & Snowboard Festival, bringing that wonderful Whistler melange of artistic minds and mountain culture.
State of the Art embodies the core ethos of WSSF. It combines culture with mountain style, featuring over 50 artists ranging from British Columbia and around the world, with many artists from other continents now residing in Whistler, BC.
Join the rest of Whistler locals in the grand foyer of the Whistler Conference Centre for the entire 10 days of WSSF. Admission is free for attendees.
The State of the Art is where the entire artistic segment of WSSF begins. On April 8 from 8pm to midnight, attendees will be able to mix and mingle with featured artists while strolling around the grand foyer, immersing themselves in the intimate sub-culture of lifestyle action sport.
One of the most special parts of the State of the Art Opening Party is that this is the first time any of the art pieces are available for purchase. You can acquire a one-of-a-kind piece at this event which truly tells the story of your stay in Whistler. The party will feature a DJ, live art from Chad Depner, and aerial dance performances.
The State of the ART gallery will be open to the public from 12pm to 6pm daily with no entry fee required until after 8pm when tickets are necessary to enter the Whistler Conference Centre for evening gala events. There will be a cash bar including the OLYPMUS 72Hr Filmmaker Showdown, the OLYMPUS Pro Photographer Showdown and Intersection, presented by Bromley Baseboards.
The only exception is during Splatterday Night Fever invitational roller derby bout on April 9 when the State of the ART gallery will remain open with free access for the general public during the bout. State of the ART has once again partnered with Zero Ceiling this year to help raise funds for the Whistler-based charity. Featured artists will be donating pieces for an Auction Wall, with all funds going directly towards Zero Ceiling.
New for 2016, the State of the ART gallery will feature a jewelry wall, showcasing hand-crafted locally designed jewelry. Attendees can also expect to see some unique metal art, masks, skulls, and art for the dark, which lights up. WSSF will once again be hosting an online store to complement the State of the ART gallery, where the featured art can be browsed and purchased online.
The online store will showcase the same works featured in the State of the ART gallery and can be viewed at www.artstore.wssf.com. The online store goes live at 1am on April 9.
